SARASOTA ARCHITECTURAL WOODWORKING represents a vision that began in the late 1970s. Brian Kuhn returned home to Florida after his tour in the U.S. Army where he had achieved the rank of Spec 4 with the 5845th Maintenance Company. He apprenticed with master carver Sam Gaffin and, four years later, started his first woodworking shop in Kissimmee. The company had a reputation for creative problem solving, flawless spiral staircases and over-the-top design that attracted many celebrity clients as well as early developers of the Orlando area.

Brian recognized that building an effective, talented team was the best way to serve the clients so he set out to gather the most gifted craftsmen, designers and managers, many of whom are still with the team today.

The business expanded its market penetration to include luxury residences, historic restoration, and commercial projects ranging from banks, offices, churches and country clubs to high-end retail and department stores, restaurants and theme parks. The 1990s saw the addition of transportation interiors, including cruise ships for Royal Caribbean, Holland America, and Costa. Boat and yacht interiors followed with projects varying from a line of 43-foot production boat interiors to a 200-foot yacht for Middle East royalty.

The company also is involved in the aircraft industry. Recent projects include the refit of a Gulfstream jet and a custom teak floor for a Bell helicopter. One of the signature products the company offers is the design and production of interiors for custom motor coaches for entertainers, motion picture artists, athletes and business leaders which have been featured on MTV and shows like Extreme RV.

In 2016, we recognized an opportunity to grow the business and focus on the residential market. Our current shop is almost 15,000 square feet and includes a showroom, interior design workspace, and a state-of-the-art woodworking shop featuring the most advanced finishing capabilities on Florida’s Gulf Coast The philosophy of building the most talented team is still forefront in the company's success and we boast some of the best artisans and craftsmen in Florida.

OUR COMMITMENT TO THE COMMUNITY

Each year, SARASOTA ARCHITECTURAL WOODWORKING selects a non-profit project in the community. Design and project management time is donated and materials and labor are awarded at cost. Past projects include the renovation of a not-for-profit retail space, architectural plans for a community restoration and interior design for a church. Please contact us if your non-profit would like to discuss your project needs for 2018-19.
